Houston Personal Concierge // One of Our Most Requested Concierge Tasks Pt. 1

As a personal concierge in Houston my team and I have been asked to do lots of various things through the past 15 years from professional organizing to personal assistant tasks. On the personal concierge side of the business one of the most requested things I get asked to do is pick up and deliver balloons. I do this all the time for clients for various occasions like birthdays, holiday events, thank yous, and the list goes on and on. We get requests for lots of different types of balloons and we usually get them inflated and then delivered. I love doing it because I know there is going to be some happy person out there. We also hire balloon companies, like That Ballon Girl here in Houston,  for clients to do balloon arches, displays, etc. People love balloons and they are a fun and festive way to celebrate a variety of occasions.

Eco Modern Concierge Recently Purchased Items: Part 1

As a professional organizer and concierge based in Houston, TX I constantly purchase products on behalf of clients, so I thought I was feature some of the products that are recently purchased here on the blog. You can always find the items on the Eco Modern Concierge Shop page as well. This of course is not everything that I have purchased recently, but just a random mix of things.

Red Wine Stain Remover: If you have never used this stuff. It actually does work.

Toothbrush Heads: This is such a common everyday item because so many people have electric toothbrushes now.

LED Cafe Bulbs: Do you have cafe lights? Several of my clients who have had them for years as they burn out we have been replacing all the strands with LED bulbs.

DiscSox DVD Organization: If you still have DVDs and would like to save some space this acrylic DVD holder and sleeves is a great option.

Rocking Chair Cover: I recently purchased this for a client's country home for furniture on their front porch.

Picnic Table Cover: Same with these cover as well.

12" Boxwood Wreath: This is an item I purchased for myself because I have been looking for smaller boxwood wreaths to put in my windows inside of my house during the holidays. I was inspired by a photo I saw, but can't find that source online.

White Trays: These are actually lids that go onto the top of boxes, but we use them often as trays in clients homes.

Paint Sprayer: If you are doing any kind of painting project this is a game changer and so much faster than using a paint roller.

Chemex Pour-Over with Handle: This is the newer version of the Chemex that clients are loving.

Chemex with Lid: If you don't have the lid for the Chemex you need it.

Gray Skirt Hangers: We use velvet hangers on a ton of projects and I really like this version of the pant / skirt hangers with the medal clips.

Mens Grooming Tape: I learned about using mens grooming tape from fellow professional organizer Geralin Thomas. It works great as tape to help with wardrobe needs and also decorations.

Black Safety Pins: Geralin had also mentioned using black safety pins and this is something that we were already using and it is a great way to not see the pins if you are working on certain projects.

Clear Wreath Bag: If you want just a general wreath bag so you can see inside of it, these are great.

A Day in the Life of a Houston Professional Organizer and Personal Concierge

Here is a recap for EMC this week and the 5 million different directions I went in. This is the life of a Houston professional organizer and concierge. To shop most of the organization items from this post visit ecomodernconcierge.com/shop .

Monday

Helped a client in Memorial who is still renovating after Harvey. We moved clothing items from the section she is currently living in to the actual master bedroom, organized the laundry room a little bit more and other areas as well.

Then headed to Cypress to work on another master closet. This client has a really hard time getting rid of things because of sentimental attachment, but she did GREAT!!

Tuesday

Worked with a client in Memorial to organize their pantry it went from chaos to fabulousness in 3 hours.

Went to a longtime client in The Woodlands to help her sort through some photos of her mom real quick who sadly just passed away this week. If you have been following along for awhile you remember all the times we went to Tomball to go through my client's mom's estate downsize, donate and sell while her mom was in the nursing home and not doing well. I facetimed with my client probably 100+ hours in a year+ time period because she was unable to make it to the house. It was an extremely tedious project, but rewarding in the end.

Then to West U to help a client clear out one of her spare rooms to make room for a Peleton and we made the spare closet a gifting closet.

Wednesday

I have weekly standing appointments with several clients and Wednesday are big standing appointment days.

Met with my client in Piney Point and organized issues that are happening for their country home. Got new EZ tag for their new car. Coordinated with the boy that comes and does a ton of chores for them, etc.

Then off to River Oaks to help another regular client move some items around in their attic, do the summer to winter wardrobe switch. Then take donations.

In Montrose to check on a client's home who is out of town.

Then the National Concierge Association of Greater Houston meeting in the evening.

Thursday

Brave the Nutcracker Market chaos in the morning.

Head to River Oaks in the afternoon where we are decluttering a client's whole home prepping for renovations.

Still in River Oaks and helped client put up some Christmas decor.

Friday

Helped a client party prep. Picked up cookies from baker, grocery run, Michaels run for kids crafts and Specs. Then headed back to their house to bag and tie ribbon on 48 cookies.

Then headed back to the Nutcracker Market to meet my mom and brother who happened to be in the area.

Saturday

Headed to Alvin to do a closet organizing project. It has been a busy week and will only get busier.

15+ Ways a Personal Concierge can help you stay sane during the holidays

The is a repost from years past, but still relevant. This time of year is super busy for so many people and you can get overwhelmed really quickly. I have many clients here in Houston who use me for various daily tasks and the holidays are no exception. Hiring a personal concierge is easy there are several in Houston and all over. Here are some things that they can help you with.
  • Gift Research. I often times get hired to research various gifts, but have an extensive list of go to gifts that I like to give or that I know are a hit. Here in Houston there are various stores I know that I can find the perfect gifts.
  • Shop. This is one of the biggest things I get utilized for during the holidays. There are so many gifts that get bought and given
  • Help Decorate. Sometimes you just can't do it all and need help.
  • Donation Drop Off. There is a ton of giving back during the holidays and I often drop off donations for others.
  • Organize. Since I am a professional organizer, I often help with general organization in businesses and around the home. This really helps clients destress and not worry as much during the holidays.
  • Gift Wrapping. The key is to find stores like Kuhl-Linscomb that gift wrap for free, but if not then use a personal concierge. I often do this for clients and have so much fun.
  • Shipping. I ship a TON during the holidays. The key is to ship early when lines are not as long. Many of personal concierges charge by the hour, so shipping early can save you time and money.
  • Write, Address, Stamp and Mail Holiday Cards. This gets outsourced a lot because usually when people send out holiday cards they send out a lot.
  • Corporate Gift Buying. Lots of companies give gifts to employees, clients and colleagues and this is something they use concierges to assist them with.
  • Party Prep. This is a big one because so many people host holiday parties.
  • Book Travel. A ton of people travel during the holidays and a concierge can help with flights, hotel reservations, car rental, booking activities, etc.
  • Grocery Shop. So many groceries to be bought during the holidays.
  • Guest Prep. If you have guests coming into town a personal concierge can help with prepping for their arrival from getting rooms organized to arranging pick up for them to buying gifts.
  • Basic Errands. I help clients with all kinds of basic errands they just don't have time to do.

Virtual Concierge Help
I have had others hire me to help them with holiday tasks virtually as well. Here are some holiday things that I often get asked to help with virtually.

  • Buy and Ship Gifts. If there are items that can be purchased and shipped online, then that is what I help with.
  • Order and Mail Holiday Cards. This often times can be done anywhere.
  • Arrange for Professional Services. I often help arrange for services like house cleaning, organizing, catering, etc. to come in and help during the holidays.
  • Book Travel. Just like above this is something that a concierge can help with.
  • Send Alcohol and Flowers. I arrange for bottles of wine and liquor to be delivered for clients. As well as, flowers and plants.

Professional Organizer's Morning Routine : Amy Vance of Eco Modern Concierge

Is anyone else obsessed with finding out the morning routines of others? I love reading what people do in the mornings. There are many things where I think, "why don't I do that?" Here is how my typical morning goes when I don't start work super early or when I don't have spanish class. A little background, I am Amy and own Eco Modern Concierge here in Houston, TX. Eco Modern Concierge does professional organizing and personal assistance /concierge services for businesses and individuals in and around Houston.

Night before: I prep everything I will need the next day for work, set out my clothes and pack a gym bag.

5:30-45am: I get up brush my teeth, get my gym clothes on. I go downstairs and let our sweet boy (dog), Rothko out to pee. I typically eat on the go. I usually grab water and eat half of a Sinfull Bakery Everything Bar while driving. I take my vitamins before leaving the house, fish oil & a multivitamin.

6-6:15am: I leave the house.

6:30-6:45am: If I get to the gym early I check my email and social sites or read a book.

7am: I go to my yoga class or just work out at the gym. If I am working from home I try to meditate, go for a run or do stretches early in the morning.

8am: I get ready for work.

8:30-9am: I either go into the office or start client work. It depends on my appointments I have throughout the day.

9am: Days I am with a client I will work either half day or a full day depending on the projects and what the clients need. That way the second part of the day I can book other clients. If not, I do office work, I am answering emails, booking appointments, work on blog posts, etc.

10am: I am still working, but if I am able to I will make a smoothie or grab a snack. I get hungry and like to make sure I have snacks always on hand.

11:30am - noon: It's time for lunch. I try to eat healthy if I can, but sometimes I just grab whatever we have like leftovers or I schedule lunch meetings, which is rare but happens on occasion.

What does your morning routine look like?

Update of 2017 Goals

Since it is July and a little over half way through the year. I thought I would do a check in of my 2017 goals because I need to be held accountable. My current update status is in red. What are some of your updates on your goals this year?

2017 Personal Goals

Read more. I am really disappointed in myself that I didn't read as much as I would like in 2016. I read a TON of magazines, but not very many books, which is a shame because I love reading. I have been doing SO much more reading so I am happy to say yes! this is working and I still plan to read lots more this year.

Learn to play the freaking piano. This has been a goal of mine for many, many, many, many years. I need to really learn this year. STILL have NOT done this. I NEED TO DO THIS!

Be present. This was on my list a few years ago, but this is something that my husband brought up. When we are driving in the car the other person in the passenger seat is usually on their phone or if we are watching t.v or a movie one, if not both of us, are on our phone. Basically we need to PUT THE DAMN PHONE DOWN. Yes, I have been better about this, but still have not given my full attention.

Make healthier choices. This is so cliche, but it is really something that I need to focus on this year. I consider myself ok healthy, but didn't really make it a priority last year and need to this year. I exercised ok this past year, but did not do nearly as much yoga or exercising as I would have liked. My husband and I have made a ton more healthier choices this year, but STILL needs lots of improvement.

Listen better. I know I listen, but a lot of times not everyone has my full undivided attention. I want to REALLY listen and not passively listen. I feel that I have done a lot better job at listening this year, but there is always room to grow as well too.

Get rid of toxicity. There are things that I do or people in my life that are just plain toxic and it is time to say bye bye to negativity. It brings me down and I frankly don't care to make time for it. I am going to start doing what makes me happy and maybe change my outlook. Put a positive spin on the negative things. This year has been pretty cleansing, but there are still a few things I want to say buh bye to.

2017 Business Goals

Up My Promotional Material Game. I'll put this one on here again because I really need to do it. I have already started and created a plan. Yes! I got lots of new promotional material and love it.

Streamline the Accounting. Accounting is something I absolutely do not like, but obviously need to get paid :). I do most things by hand or in spreadsheets and the hard way when it comes to accounting for whatever reason and it's not great because I am a professional organizer and all about streamlining. Plus, I have helped tons through the years streamline. As the saying goes, the cobblers kids...... I did streamline the accounting, but still have some work to do on it as well.

Improve SEO. I need to work on this and have been thinking about it for many, many years. I have had some recommendations of companies to check out, so I plan on doing something in 2017. I have taken some steps on the backend of things to help improve SEO, which I feel that it has, but I still want to improve it more.

Gain new clients. This has come naturally through the years, mostly word of mouth now, but I always want new clients. I absolutely love what I do and truly strive to do my best for my clients. This is a goal every year even though I don't necessarily put it on the blog every year. Surprisingly and thankfully, when I raised my rates after the NAPO conference I got several new clients. Of course, I ALWAYS want more new clients, and am extremely thankful for my current and new clients.

Made in the USA: Good Flow Honey

I have been using this Good Flow Honey for many years and love it. I love that you can get it raw if you want also. It is made right up the rode in Austin. I know it isn't local in terms of being near Houston, but for me it is local enough and it's good. As many of you know local honey is best for you. I love that it is made in Texas and you can get it in varying sizes. Also, I think it would make a good gift as well because it is delicious.

Made in the USA: Scotch Spray Glue

I have posted about Scotch products in the past, but the fact is I use them on a regular basis. I picked up these spray glues on a whim while doing some personal assistant tasks in Houston and saw that it was on sale, so I thought I would give it a go. It is great for scrap booking, to use on photos and general crafting projects. Plus, it is made in the USA. Have you tried these products? Do you like it?

12 Ways to De-Stress

What are some ways you like to destress? With work and general life happenings many of times you can get so stressed out and not really know how to decompress. I love what I do as a concierge owner in Houston, but just like others I get super stressed about various things too. Here are 12 ways to de-stress.
  • Art. I am sure you have seen all of those adult coloring books around, but just creating any type of art can be very therapeutic.
  • Yoga.This is my #1 go-to. I love yoga.
  • Meditate. This is something that has been hard for me personally, but I do feel less stress when I meditate regularly.
  • Read. I love reading and getting lost in a book.
  • Go for a walk. This is one thing I really look forward to each day, although some days it doesn't happen. I love taking my fur baby on walks.
  • Listen to music. Music can help in so many different ways and can be very therapeutic as well.
  • Journal. When you write things down on paper you tend to release a lot of build up.
  • Get creative. Do any and everything creative. Using your creativity lets you focus on less stressful things.
  • Ride your bike. This is one of my favorite things to do. I love riding my bike and just wondering.
  • Take a bath. I don't do this nearly as often as I should, but taking a bath, reading and or just listening to music is super de-stressing
  • Organize. When I get stressed out I often times begin to organize and for me this is stress reducing to see everything have a place of it's own.
  • Drink. Kidding.....sort of. Wind down with a beer, cocktail or glass of wine this can always help.

Made in the USA: Mizzen + Main

Mizzen + Main came to Houston for a pop-up shop during the Super Bowl and while I was out and about for a concierge client I thought I would stop in real quick. My brother-in-law loves their clothing because they wick away moisture, wrinkle reducing, stylish and comfortable. I bought a few things for Bry for Valentine's Day and he loves them. The company is from Dallas and the clothing is made in the USA. They are a little pricy than other clothing, but worth it.

Have you or anyone you know tried their clothing? What are your thoughts?

Top 10 Things I Get Asked to Do Most Often As a Concierge

As a concierge company in Houston, I get asked to do ALL kinds of tasks. Usually nothing is too big or too small and I will do just about anything if it is legal and I morally / ethically feel comfortable with it. There are several other concierge companies in Houston that do personal assistance & professional organizing, but not a whole lot that have an eco conscious niche. Below are some things that I get asked to do most often.
  1. Organization Projects. I do a ton of organization projects through the year whether it is home, office, closet, storage units, etc. They are all usually a ton of fun.
  2. Errands. I get asked so often to do just general errands. This includes, but not limited to, grocery runs, dry cleaning, postal services, gift shopping, etc.
  3. House sit ins. I do this for people who can't be home for the electrician, painters, cable people, etc.
  4. Help with events. I am not an event planner per se, but I do get asked to facilitate and assist with many events through the years. Many of times it is event prep, pre-plannning and logistics. I do also help secure locations for clients, etc.
  5. Recycle drop offs. Surprisingly, not all of Houston has recycle pick ups, so I get asked to take recycling to recycle centers a lot.
  6. Research. I research a lot of things for clients on a regular basis and it includes dining options, traveling recommendations, local services they need help finding, business research they want outsourced, etc.
  7. Travel arrangements. I make travel arrangements for clients pretty regularly because a good chunk of my clients travel often. They usually need help finding out what to do, where to eat, etc.
  8. Eco knowledge. Although this isn't a specific task in particular, many of my clients do like that I have an eco niche and am eco conscious. I get asked about ways to green their home / business and products to use, etc.
  9. General personal assistant tasks. I get asked to do a lot of general personal assistant tasks like making calls, filing, bill pay, errands, book appointments, buying tickets, etc.
  10. Scheduling. I get asked to do a ton of scheduling whether this is spa services, client appointments for business executives, in home services, office services, meetings, etc.
