Update on 2021 Goals

Below in red is an update on where I am at on some of my goals for this year. I have tried really hard to slow down and really relish in the moment with our sweet baby boy all while trying to run a small business.

I know that 2020 was less than ideal for many people, but for us it was a pretty good year. Looking back there were definitely more positives than negatives, but there was definitely some really low, infuriating  and horrible points that I don't care to or that I have not shared yet because some of those low points are still trying to be resolved.

Below are some of my goals for 2021 for business and personal. I wanted to put things that I think are attainable. I have list of other ideas as well, but these are things that I really want to work on and try to do. Some are going to be harder to do than others and that is ok. Many goals take time and hard work. In the words of Glennon Doyle "We can do hard things" :

Business

Stress less over things that I can not control. The fact of the matter is that shit is going to happen that I have no control over and I am just going to have to live with it. Stressing does nothing, but put me in a bad mood and it helps me to find the good rather than the bad in the situation to the best of my ability. I still stress over things because after all this is my business I have worked hard to build, but having a baby this year there is so much that is not worth stressing over.

Setting clear boundaries with clients. I am pretty good with this already, but some clients and potential clients need to know there are boundaries. Like I will not text back after a certain point at night, I will not always drop everything I am doing to help with their non-emergency organizing situation, I will not bump and rearrange my schedule just to accommodate them and their needs at any given moment. If you know me you know I am, try to be and probably always will be accommodating the best that I can. I really do care a lot about my clients, hence why I have been able to sustain many clients for many years. This is something I am still doing well with, with a few exceptions. I think client boundaries are important. Sometimes "emergencies" are not true emergencies. With that said, if you know us, you know we try hard to accommodate all organizing "emergencies"

Hire more people. Hiring and scheduling are 2 of the most frustrating things when it comes to behind the scenes work you don't see. I have awesome people that work for me and then some will just change their mind, have life changes, move, etc. and then it is like starting all over again. It beyond frustrates me when I am interviewing people who want to get paid big bucks, but only want to work 10-20 hours a week and have no responsibility. Well, don't we all. Tell me where to hire the awesome people who actually want to work lol. I still need to hire more people, but have hired one additional person this year, which has been a huge help.

Slow down. I feel like I say this a lot, but it's true. I know there are busy seasons of our business that are crazier than others. 2020 forced many of us, including myself, to really slow down. During the pandemic and quarantine I got a TON done business wise and personally. Plus, I really needed a break. I want to really relish in certain business and personal moments and not be booking myself or the ones that work for me on a crazy amount of projects in one day. Hence, setting clear boundaries lol. When I slow down it always helps me to really think about things, be super organized, do creative things, come up with new ideas, and the list goes on and on. Having a baby has forced me to do this. Now that I am back to work full time. I am trying hard slow down even more in order to spend as much time with him as possible. With a few exceptions, I have not been working as many late nights and weekends like I was doing before.

Personal

Be a good mom and wife. This year is about to change for me because I am about to become a first time mom and can't wait! I know this will present many challenges and I really want to focus on being a good mom and wife to my husband. I think I am good wife already, but I know there are definitely things that I can improve on. I think every relationship has room for improvement. I sure love being a mom. I know I and my husband are doing the best we know how. We will continue to do any and everything for our sweet son.

Take time to do creative things I love and things I love in general. There are so many creative things that I love doing like creating art for various non-profits like Valentine's cards for Texas Children's Hospital, organizing toy drives for MD Anderson, reading, writing, yoga, walks, etc. These are all things I love and feel that many have been put on the back burner or I do them in a rushed way and don't feel great about doing them. Well I don't have nearly as much time as I thought I would have right after having a baby 😂

Celebrate the small things. I don't know if it is having a child or what and I have actually talked about this before on here, but celebrating the little things and finding little hints of joy and positivity, I believe can make for happier moments in life. I think like many people, the bad and negative things really get to me sometimes. Through the years I have definitely developed some thicker skin and let a lot more roll off my back, but there are some things that are just frustrating. I can still do better at this and want it to be some fun traditions for out little one.

Document things. Having a newborn and a year of firsts. I want to make sure I properly document everything and can't wait to document everything. I was keeping a daily journal then stopped. I need to get more video as well. I have a ton of pictures.

Organize photos. I did this during quarantine, but slacked again throughout the year because of being busy with work and not feeling my best for the first 3 months of pregnancy. I still need to get on this.

Slow down and relish in the moment. I am putting this on my personal goal as well as my business goal because I really want to do this, this year. I am ok with missing out on certain opportunities if it means I get to spend more time with my family (my priority), take care of myself, appreciate the small things, have an overall better since of positivity and happiness and the list goes on and on. I think I have done a pretty good job of this, but can always do more.

Some other fun, super realistic goals

Clean out my car daily. I am good at this already, but really want to be great at diligently doing it more regularly. I TRY to do it daily, but it has more likely been happening weekly. I try to start the week off with a clean car.

Take down my water cups from my nightstand every morning. Anyone else guilty of having a huge accumulating pile of cups of water on their nightstand? Doesn't happen every morning, but happens several times a week.

Cleaning up nightly. My husband and I both made it a goal to clean up nightly by not waiting to do dishes, clearing counter tops, etc. We were semi good at this, but we are preparing for what craziness is about to come so we want to be better about this. We have started and have stuck to it so far and man it feels so good to wake up every morning to a clean kitchen or not rush clean certain areas because someone is coming over. We have done a pretty good job at this, but can always do better. It makes such a difference to wake up to a clean house.

2020 Goals

2019 was a fabulous year and I can't wait to see wait 2020 has in store for Eco Modern Concierge. We accomplished a ton, but still have a ton more to accomplish. You can view past goals: 2018, 201720162015, and 2014

Business Goals

Hire more people. In 2019 Eco Modern Concierge grew a lot and I am forever thankful and grateful for that. It has come time that we need to expand even more. I love what I do everyday and so very thankful for our referrals.

Explore more opportunities with my certifications. I have several certifications and want to explore opportunities that come with certifications.

Work with more corporate clients. I love working with businesses and want to work more with corporate clients this year.

Write EMC processes. I have a ton of processes and the way I like things done behind the scenes, so this year I am determined to get everything organized and into flowing processes.

Say no more. I am a yes person and tend to over commit. As much as I want to help, when I over commit I tend to get really stressed out and don't perform as well as I would like. I will be saying no more often this year.

Personal Goals

Volunteer more. I hardly volunteered at all in 2019, so in 2020 I want to volunteer at least once a month.

Organize my photos. The last couple of years I have not organized my photos like I have wanted to.

Be more intentional with my time. I want to spend more time with my husband, family and friends and not working so much at home. Hence why I am looking to hire people to help me.

Send more cards. Some how got away from sending as many cards as I used to, so this year I want to send more cards.

2019 Goals

Wow what a wonderful year 2018 was. I accomplished so much professionally and personally. Can't wait to see what 2019 has in store for this little business. I couldn't remember all of my goals from 2018 and when I was writing down things for this year, I noticed I had some of the exact same goals What are some of your goals this year?

Here is an update from last year:

2018 Personal Goals

Self care. Well I still need to work on this, but I have made attempts.

More  yoga. Unfortunately, this has not happened. It is on my list again this year.

Document more. Semi happened. I can still work on it.

Explore HoustonI want to continue exploring and have been to several new places.

Get rid of toxicity. I DID THIS!!! I no longer work for a very toxic client and my energy has shifted and my business has flourished. I still have nightmares about them sometime, but thankfully overall I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!

2018 Business Goals

Learn new things. I have learned some new things, but not like I wanted to do.

Join different business networking groups. I am happy to be a part of so many new groups! I love the people I have met. Maybe I will continue this year.

Take more online courses. I have taken many new online courses and even earned my Life Transitions certificate from NAPO.

Collaborate more with colleagues. Lots of collaboration happened last year with colleagues.

More videos. I made several videos last year and then just stopped because life got hectic. I really need to pick that back up when I have a slow day.

Give back moreThis is a passion of mine and continue to do it. I have been trying to give back at least once a month for organizing services and also, all my other volunteering stuff that I LOVE!

2019 Business Goals

Update website. It's been several years since it had a refresh and desperately needs one. I update it myself, but need new graphics, more streamlined, etc. I made the first step and reached out to a company to help with this. Let's see if they get back to me and where it goes.

Upload receipts. I have all my receipts for my business, but want to upload and attach them to the proper transaction in my Quickbooks. That way I am making it way more efficient for myself and for tax time.

Do more speaking engagements. I love speaking and do get slightly nervous, but would really like to do even more speaking engagements. I have 2 booked in January so far.

Work more in suburban areas like The Woodlands and Clear Lake. 95% of my business is near or inside the loop of Houston and I definitely don't want to move too far away from that, but would really like business in The Woodlands or Clear Lake / Galveston area (where a good chunk of my family is). So please let me know if you have any referrals in those areas.

Get published more. I don't know how this will happen, but I would like to get published more locally and nationally. If you have any connections or know any publications looking for content for organizing or concierge services I would really like to be considered.

Document more. This was on my personal goals last year, but this year I want to document more projects, funny stories, fun things we do, etc. in my concierge business. Everyday is different and I love it and want to remember it.

Streamline. Get more things on automation. I use my physical calendar religiously and want to also use my electronic calendar religiously, I want to deal with accounting stuff asap, etc.

2019 Personal Goals

Read more. I don't think I read one book in its entirety the whole year last year. I started a TON, but never finished one. I will read more books this year.

More yoga. I failed so much on the yoga journey last year. This is my year for more stretch and to get back into it. I truly love yoga and am mad at myself for not doing it more.

Cook one recipe from a different cookbook at least 4 times a month. I love cooking and have a ton of cookbooks that rarely get used, so this is the year to use them more!

Open the damn InstantPot box and actually use it. We have had the InstantPot since July and STILL have not opened the box. This has to change because everyone raves about it.

2018 Goals

Man what a crazy year. There were lots of ups and downs and I got to do and be a part of many cool things. So far, 2018 is looking great! I have so many personal and professional goals I want to accomplish this year. Running a concierge company that provides professional organizing and personal assistant services in Houston can be lot of work and I really want to focus on some goals this year. Here is a look back at past goals 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017.

Now lets recap last years goals. I did an update in July and thought I would post it here. I did add a few things.

2017 Personal Goals Recap

Read moreI have been doing SO much more reading so I am happy to say yes! this is working and I still plan to read lots more this year.
Learn to play the freaking piano. STILL have NOT done this. I NEED TO DO THIS!
Be present. Yes, I have been better about this, but still have not given my full attention. I am still sloooowwwwly getting better at this.
Make healthier choices. My husband and I have made a ton more healthier choices this year, but STILL needs lots of improvement.
Listen better. I feel that I have done a lot better job at listening this year, but there is always room to grow as well too.
Get rid of toxicityThis year has been pretty cleansing, but there are still a few things I want to say buh bye to. There are some big changes in 2018.

2018 Personal Goals

Self care. At the end of 2017 I really got into more self care practices and think it is SO important. I want to make it a goal of mine to do more self care, more often.

More  yoga. Since I had wrist surgery in June 2017, I finally started getting my strength back in November. During June - November I got out of the yoga practice for a good chunk of time and long to get my strength and flexibility back.

Document more. I have a bad habit of not documenting things like I used to by writing them down and taking pictures. I want to do more of that this year.

Explore Houston. The last several years I have really gotten away from exploring Houston like I used to and feel so out of the loop sometimes, so I want to spend more time exploring.

Get rid of toxicity. I am going to put this on here again this year because IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN. I have some very toxic things in my life and am already making steps to change them. It can just really drag you down. I  know this in turn will make me much happier and be a better wife.

2017 Business Goals Recap

Up My Promotional Material Game. Yes! I got lots of new promotional material and love it.
Streamline the Accounting. I did streamline the accounting, but still have some work to do on it as well.
Improve SEO. I have taken some steps on the backend of things to help improve SEO, which I feel that it has, but I still want to improve it more.
Gain new clientsSurprisingly and thankfully, when I raised my rates after the NAPO conference I got several new clients. Of course, I ALWAYS want more new clients, and am extremely thankful for my current and new clients.

2018 Business Goals

Learn new things. Many years ago I put this on my list and had so much fun learning new things each month. I want to do this for business and personal.

Join different business networking groups. There are so many fun networking groups out there and although, I don't always want to network, I do want to meet new people and hear about different businesses in Houston.

Take more online courses. I want to take more classes online and really expand on learning new things.

Collaborate more with colleagues. This year I got to know so many new, wonderful colleagues in the professional organizing and concierge fields and want to collaborate more with them and get to know them more.

More videos. I want to create more videos for work and play around with things to see if I can perfect them a little more.

Give back more. I have always given back, but this past year I made it a point to put out there I want to give back to one organization a month by providing a free organizing session. When the hurricane came things got halted mixed with organizations not getting back to me. This is the year I will put more of an effort into it.

Update of 2017 Goals

Since it is July and a little over half way through the year. I thought I would do a check in of my 2017 goals because I need to be held accountable. My current update status is in red. What are some of your updates on your goals this year?

2017 Personal Goals

Read more. I am really disappointed in myself that I didn't read as much as I would like in 2016. I read a TON of magazines, but not very many books, which is a shame because I love reading. I have been doing SO much more reading so I am happy to say yes! this is working and I still plan to read lots more this year.

Learn to play the freaking piano. This has been a goal of mine for many, many, many, many years. I need to really learn this year. STILL have NOT done this. I NEED TO DO THIS!

Be present. This was on my list a few years ago, but this is something that my husband brought up. When we are driving in the car the other person in the passenger seat is usually on their phone or if we are watching t.v or a movie one, if not both of us, are on our phone. Basically we need to PUT THE DAMN PHONE DOWN. Yes, I have been better about this, but still have not given my full attention.

Make healthier choices. This is so cliche, but it is really something that I need to focus on this year. I consider myself ok healthy, but didn't really make it a priority last year and need to this year. I exercised ok this past year, but did not do nearly as much yoga or exercising as I would have liked. My husband and I have made a ton more healthier choices this year, but STILL needs lots of improvement.

Listen better. I know I listen, but a lot of times not everyone has my full undivided attention. I want to REALLY listen and not passively listen. I feel that I have done a lot better job at listening this year, but there is always room to grow as well too.

Get rid of toxicity. There are things that I do or people in my life that are just plain toxic and it is time to say bye bye to negativity. It brings me down and I frankly don't care to make time for it. I am going to start doing what makes me happy and maybe change my outlook. Put a positive spin on the negative things. This year has been pretty cleansing, but there are still a few things I want to say buh bye to.

2017 Business Goals

Up My Promotional Material Game. I'll put this one on here again because I really need to do it. I have already started and created a plan. Yes! I got lots of new promotional material and love it.

Streamline the Accounting. Accounting is something I absolutely do not like, but obviously need to get paid :). I do most things by hand or in spreadsheets and the hard way when it comes to accounting for whatever reason and it's not great because I am a professional organizer and all about streamlining. Plus, I have helped tons through the years streamline. As the saying goes, the cobblers kids...... I did streamline the accounting, but still have some work to do on it as well.

Improve SEO. I need to work on this and have been thinking about it for many, many years. I have had some recommendations of companies to check out, so I plan on doing something in 2017. I have taken some steps on the backend of things to help improve SEO, which I feel that it has, but I still want to improve it more.

Gain new clients. This has come naturally through the years, mostly word of mouth now, but I always want new clients. I absolutely love what I do and truly strive to do my best for my clients. This is a goal every year even though I don't necessarily put it on the blog every year. Surprisingly and thankfully, when I raised my rates after the NAPO conference I got several new clients. Of course, I ALWAYS want more new clients, and am extremely thankful for my current and new clients.

2017 Goals

Where in the hell did 2016 go?!?! It is that time where I go over goals for the year. I have done so much and can't wait to see what is on the horizon. As a professional organizer and concierge in Houston, there is so much I want to do and achieve. You can review some of my past goals from 2016, 2015, and 2014. With personal and business goals there are things that I am constantly striving to do, so when I write goals for the year it doesn't necessarily cover everything I want to do. Below are a few things that I have been thinking about and just need to start doing them!

Let's first recap 2016 goals

Meal Plan. I did meal plan a good chunk, but totally fell off the wagon towards the end of the year.
Random Acts of Kindness. I love this one because I did do random acts of kindness like sending letters to individuals, donating items, helping people who looked lost wandering downtown, randomly sending gift cards to people who do a lot for others, etc. I still want to do MORE this year.
Learn to Use My Camera. I did learn to use my camera more this year in the manual mode, but still need to learn so much more.
More Me Time. This happened to a degree. I didn't get to take a solo trip, but still did stuff for myself like getting reflexology or just roaming the book store.
Try / Learn Something New. Yes, I did try and learn a lot of new things, but more than anything I am proud of myself for finally taking Spanish lessons!!

2017 Personal Goals

Read more. I am really disappointed in myself that I didn't read as much as I would like in 2016. I read a TON of magazines, but not very many books, which is a shame because I love reading.

Learn to play the freaking piano. This has been a goal of mine for many, many, many, many years. I need to really learn this year.

Be present. This was on my list a few years ago, but this is something that my husband brought up. It brings me down and I frankly don't care to make time for it. I am going to start doing what makes me happy and maybe change my outlook. Put a positive spin on the negative things.

2016 Business Goals Recap

Collaborate More / Establish Relationships. I did establish a lot more vendor relationships, which was great, but still want to strive to establish more and connect with more people.
Write Down Successes (big & small). I did great with this the first half the of the year, but the second half not as good. Nonetheless, I did keep track of successes. Becoming a WBENC - Certified Women's Business Enterprise, becoming an approved vendor for Super Bowl 51 and getting a small office space in Downtown Houston were some highlights among many.
Teach/Write More Articles. I did write a little more, but didn't teach much. Teaching is still something that I am interested in, but need to find the right people who want to learn about the profession or certain skills and how-tos.
Join More Professional Organizations. I did!
Up My Promotional Material Game. Well, I sucked at this, last year. Here is to a new year. It is really hard to find local, eco printing options in Houston. If you know of anyone let me know.
Blog / Create an Editorial Calendar. Yes! I did a lot more of this if you have been reading the blog. Scheduling posts has been a life saver.

2017 Business Goals

Up My Promotional Material Game. I'll put this one on here again because I really need to do it. I have already started and created a plan.

Streamline the Accounting. Accounting is something I absolutely do not like, but obviously need to get paid :). 2016 Goals

For the past couple of years I have been posting my goals for the year. Here are 2015 goals. 2015 was a great year, but at the same time a tough year with loss. When I was writing down my goals during the holidays without ever looking back at what I wrote (I need to do this more often through the year), I realized I wrote many of the same goals that I had last year. Not listed are goals my husband and I made together for 2016 that we want to accomplish together.

Let's recap my 2015 goals, which I think I can always work on:
  • Be more positive: I think I did great with this, well, at least much better than previous years.
  • Have gratitude: I am forever grateful for what I have, whom I am surrounded by, what I get to do, etc. etc.
  • Be more patient: Still working on this one, but I think I did much better this past year.
  • Be present: I really need to still work on this. I did ok.
  • Go somewhere new: We went to Edisto Beach, SC and was able to explore Charleston and Destin, FL along the way. Some of us road tripped it and I rode with my aunt and uncle.
  • Stress less: this past year was stressful in many ways. Still need to work on it.
  • Try / learn something new: I tried a ton of new things this past year. I need to do a post about this.
  • Accomplish yoga goals: I still can't do the splits, but feel I can hold me plank longer.
  • Host more parties and dinners in our new home: We had a lot of people over, but I didn't host as many as I would like.

2016 Goals

Meal Plan: I love the cook, but frankly Bryan and I just don't always have the time to. This will save time, money and hopefully not waste as much. We ate out and many Trader Joe's frozen foods (we don't normally eat a ton of frozen food that I didn't prepare, but most of their frozen foods are really good and we love their fried rice)

Random Acts of Kindness: I have done this in the past, but I want to do it more this year.

Learn to Use my Camera: I love my camera I got last year and have learned so much about it. I have only really used it to take blogging pictures. I want use it to take more everyday pictures.

More Me Time: This past October I we were in Austin for a music festival and I stayed longer than Bryan to attend SXSW Eco. I rented an eco Airbnb. I LOVED having the downtime to myself. Don't get me wrong I love being around Bryan, but it was very stress free away from the general demands of life. I went to Black Swan Yoga, got a haircut at Milk + Honey, tried several different oyster places during happy hour, went to different eateries in general, did a little shopping (found a love for Outdoor Voices), watched tv, wrote, read and met up with a friend. It was fun and I want to do it again this maybe back to Austin because I LOVE Austin or somewhere else. Several years ago I would go different places here and there to decompress maybe I'll start doing that again like yoga, meditation, museums, zoo, etc.

Try / learn something new: I am adding this again because I had so much fun with it the past couple of years.

2015 Business Goals Recap:

  • Blog more for Eco Modern Concierge (perhaps the personal blog too): I did blog more than I had in the past, but not consistently like I would have liked. I think I may shut down my personal blog because I am not sure I want my life of my husband and I exposed like that. Still thinking about it....
  • Work more and find something that really challenges me: I worked a lot more and so thankful for new clients and connections I made this past year. There were plenty of challenges along the way and I am always up for more!
  • Collaborate with and meet new people in the area: Well I certainly met a TON of new people in 2015. I really got out of my comfort zone and went for it. I did get to collaborate with some great people.

2016 Business Goals:

Collaborate More / Establish Relationships: I would still really like to collaborate with more businesses, bloggers and people in general. Whether it is in Houston or elsewhere. I have great relationships with my clients, but I want to establish ongoing and good relationships with the people, businesses, vendors, etc. that I work with throughout the year. Along with meeting new people, businesses, etc to collaborate with and build working, business relationships with.

Write Down Successes (big & small): I want to really remember everything I accomplished (or didn't)  throughout the year and it's hard to remember if I don't write it down. I also just want to keep a log of who've reached out to, who has reached out to me, and just day to day things I do to hopefully grow & improve my business.

Teach / Write More Articles: This kind of goes with collaborating, but I would really like to teach more perhaps add some workshops or online courses and guest contribute on blogs.

Join more Professional Organizations: There are several professional organizations that I have been wanting to join for sometime now and I just need to pay the money and do it. I try to look at it in a way where it is beneficial for price vs. how many clients come of it or connections I make through it. You never know who you will meet.

Up My Promotional Material Game: I really need to get new gift certificates and promotional material made. I want to try to source it locally and eco hopefully.

Blog / Create an Editorial Calendar: I was really hesitant to put this on my list of business goals because blogging really hasn't been my thing. I enjoy it, but It takes sooooo much time. Hopefully if I create an editorial calendar it will be something that I can stick to and not pressure myself to write often. It's hard to come up with new, unique content that others haven't already covered. I'll keep on trying.

2015 Goals

Happy New Year! I may be the only one thinking this, but I am glad the holidays are over. I just wasn't feeling it this year. I had a lot of personal things happen towards the end of the year that just weren't great. I tried so hard to be in the spirit doing holiday type things beginning in November and through December because I really do love Christmas, but I couldn't fully pull myself out of the funk. Basically, I threw myself into work during the holidays. I committed to things and didn't really take off work like I have in the past. This next year has to be better. I wanted to recap my 2014 goals to see how I did and share my 2015 goals.

Recap of 2014 goals:

  • Be more positive: I think I did good with this for the most part, but man some bad, unexpected things happened towards the end of the year so it was hard to stay positive.
  • Buy a home: we did buy a home!
  • Travel somewhere new with Bryan: We went to Estes Park with friends in May.
  • Cook new recipes often: I cooked a ton of new recipes this year. I love cooking and cook a lot, but tend to go to our "regulars". This year we both cooked things we hadn't before.
  • Try new things: I tried a lot of new things this past year and took a lot of new classes. I will share more about it in another upcoming post.
  • Continue to date Bryan and go on new adventures: we sure did have some fun this year and I got to do new things with him. He was off for 2 whole months in a row (November and December), which made it extra awesome.
  • Shit or get off the pot about getting my Phd: well still undecided. As of right now I think it is a no, but never say never.

2015 Goals:

Be more positive: I am putting this on here again because this is something I really want to work on and not get down on myself. Find the silver linings in situations.
Have gratitude: I guess this kind of goes with being positive. I think I am pretty good at having gratitude, but I really want to reflect on this everyday. I have sooooo much to be grateful for and really want to be aware of this.
Be more patient: This is something I am constantly working on. I can get very impatient at times and need to work on it. Bryan is so calm most of the time and I really want to take that great quality of his and adapt it into my everyday life.
Be present: I know this is on a ton of people's goals, but I do think it is a good one. I want to cherish the small things more. I want to really pay attention to conversations with everyone, especially those who are close to me because I tend to tune things out at times or get caught up in other things. I need to stop multitasking so much when I am at home. Get off the damn phone.
Go somewhere new: this could be on my list of goals every year. I love going new places and experiencing new things.
Stress less: this past year was stressful in many ways and this year I really want to stress less. I want to meditate more and be mindful. I really can't / don't want to deal with the stress as much this year.
Try / learn something new: I really enjoyed trying new things last year and want to do it again. I say every year I want to perfect my Spanish more or learn the piano. Bryan got me a keyboard for Christmas just like the one I sold many years ago, so I definitely plan on learning piano. Refine my camera skills with the dslr I have. I want to REALLY learn it, although I have taken a class on how to use it this past December.
Accomplish yoga goals: I really love yoga and didn't practice as much in November and December as I should have. My yoga goals this year are to do the splits and hold a plank for 3 consecutive minutes.
Host more parties and dinners in our new home: towards the end of last year we did end up having a lot of people over for various things. We hosted Friendsgiving this past year, I had a gift wrap party, we had BBQs, etc. It was fun and I would like to do it more this year.

Recap 2014 Business Goals:

  • Blog more for Eco Modern Concierge and my personal blog for family: haha well this didn't happen too much. Maybe this year.
  • Reach out to expand my business: Well I did do this, but didn't get the responses I was hoping for, but every little thing helped. I always learn something. I did have a successful year, which I am grateful for.
  • Don't let fear get in the way of trying new things: I went for it in a lot of situations, so I would say this was a success.
  • Finish and reevaluate my business plan: well this didn't happen. Try again this year.

2015 Business Goals:

Blog more for Eco Modern Concierge (perhaps the personal blog too): I will put this on here again because I want to show people the progress of projects I am working on for work. It is just time consuming and blogging isn't my business. I changed the layout in December and really need to up my game with the picture taking. Perhaps start using the real camera, not just the iPhone.
Work more and find something that really challenges me: Although I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, my business and what I do, I really want to take things up a notch this year. I am not always challenged in the ways that I wish I was. I have thought on several occasions and even put feelers out their with some of my clients, colleagues, family and friends that I may explore the idea of taking on corporate position or something that really challenges me. I really want this to be with Eco Modern Concierge, so we will see how this goes. I love my clients and soooo grateful for all of them. Of course it would be awesome to have benefits, consistent pay, etc. But you really can't beat the flexibility, creative freedom, being your own boss, among a ton of other things, when it comes to running your own business.
Collaborate with and meet new people in the area: whether this results in actual business or not I really want to get to know others in Houston and think it will be fun to see how others work.

2014 Goals

Wow I can't believe that it is already 2014. This past year went by crazy fast. Wow what a year it was.

I'm usually not too big on resolutions, but this year I have personal and business goals that I hope to accomplish. These are all things that I think I can accomplish without setting myself up for failure.

Personal Goals:

Be more positive. I think in general I am a pretty positive person. I can be very positive for other people when they have situations, but when it comes to my situations I am hard on myself. There is always a silver lining in everything.
Buy a home. This is something that Bryan and I have wanted for a long time. Last year when we went to get a mortgage, 2 different mortgage people told us that Bryan needed to be in his job for at least 2 years. Since his previous career was in construction and he is now in oil and gas. This was a little disappointing, but that just gave us more time to save. This is our year to buy a house!
Travel somewhere new with Bryan. Bryan and I love to travel and I hope to explore a new city, state or country with Bryan. This year we are going to California for our aunts wedding, which is my first time in California, but not Bryan's so hopefully we can go somewhere together we both haven't been yet.
Cook new recipes often. I cook a good amount at home and love to cook, but we often default to regular things that we like or that are easy. I love cookbooks and have so many, so we are going to try new things. Our first food adventure is going to be using our pasta maker we got for our wedding over a year ago.
Try new things. I love trying new things and 2 things that have been on my list for years are learning the piano and perfecting my spanish conversation and writing skills. I hope to do either or both of these things this year and try something new like taking a calligraphy class or some other classes. The calligraphy class I really want to take is with Blue Eye Brown Eye, but the class offered in Houston for one day booked up within the hour and I was too late, so I am hoping to take a class from them somewhere else in Texas this year if I can't in Houston.
Continue to date Bryan and go on new adventures. Bryan and I love trying new things and going on adventures. Recently we have been trying to go to museums and attractions around Houston that we haven't been to. In September we went on a coffeehouse tour (although I don't drink coffee) to coffee places we haven't been to around Houston. We constantly go to new restaurants around town and we have been buying Groupons for various things to see all of what Houston has to offer.
Shit or get off the pot about getting my Phd. I have been tooling around with getting my Phd for years now, but I am not sure if I want to take on that financial burden, extra stress and endless writing right now. Plus, Bryan wants to go back to school and I already have my masters, so it's his turn. I need to make a decision this year because I know if I keep putting it off I will never do it. I need to take the GRE and apply for fall 2015 admission. I took the MAT for my masters, which was actually tougher than I expected and I hear the GRE is pretty tough too. I have to apply in fall 2014 for fall 2015 admission.

I was very fortunate last year to accomplish several business goals that I had wanted to accomplish like getting the new site up and running, new logo and working with new clients. This year I have other goals I want to accomplish.

Business Goals:

Blog more for Eco Modern Concierge and for my personal blog. I hope to blog at least once a week or more. My business blog is just a mish mosh of things that I am interested in from eco to organization to products I love. My personal blog is mainly for family to keep up with where Bryan and I are at and what we are up to.
Reach out more to expand my business. Whether this is to other businesses, individuals or organizations, I want to reach out and expand my business.
Don't let fear get in the way of trying new things. There are times (not too often) that I don't give my full potential because of fear. This can be fear of failure, fear of being intimidated, fear of being rejected etc. I hope to overcome this more this year.
Finish and reevaluate my business plan. I started and basically finished my business plan years ago, but I really want to take a look at it again and rethink some things and finish it completely.

What are some of your goals for the new year?
