Houston Professional Organizer // Holiday Closet Before & After

A professional organizer's dream is looking at organized spaces and this holiday closet organization project does the trick. We always have so much fun at this client's house and have made some fun transformations in this River Oaks Houston home. They wanted all of their holiday supplies organized and easily accessible, so that is what we did. We organized each box by holiday or type of event like Christmas, 4th of July, etc. Are your holiday decorations organized?

Here is what we did:
  1. Took everything out of the closet.
  2. Sorted by type like all ornaments together, Thanksgiving, etc.
  3. Wrapped all the ornaments and made sure they were secure.
  4. Organized into bins.
  5. Labeled.
  6. Put like holidays together on the shelves.

Here are some items we used for this project:

Playroom Organization Before & After + Playroom Organizing Tips

This blog post about playroom organization has been sitting in my drafts for folder for YEARS! I am not sure why I never posted this, but here you go. I helped organize this client's house on several occasions. We went through almost every space in their house. This playroom was fun to organize because it is so colorful. Every product that was used the client already had. The playroom was basically separated into various zones like art, kitchen, reading, etc.

Here are some basic playroom organizing tips:

Edit - get rid of toys that are broken, no longer work or that your child has outgrown, etc.
Sort - sort like toys together.
Toss - get rid of any trash or toys with missing pieces.
Contain - contain the toys in some type of system, whether that is bins, shelves, drawers, etc.
Enjoy!

New Products We are Loving from The Container Store Pt. 2

As a professional organizer I am always checking out what is new in the industry. Since I love going to The Container Store and it is basically my home away from home, it is always fun seeing when they have new products. The Houston locations sell out very quickly of certain items so when I know clients want certain products I have to jump on them!

It is great to have fresh and different ideas for clients because all spaces are SO different. Clients are always excited when we bring new and different products. So here is part 2 of new products we are loving from The Container Store.

What are some of your favorite products to use?

Drop Front Shoe Box: We have used drop front boxes for shoes and clothes a lot, but now they come in red and blue.

Ash Wood Roll Out Cabinet: Pull out drawers in cabinets are a great idea for so many different. reasons, but they are especially helpful for heavy dishes. I can't tell you how many cast iron pots, pans and baking dishes we have stored in pull out drawers through the years because they are so heavy.

White Modular Canister Set: What I like about these is they are great for stacking.

Clear Large Lazy Susan: I LOVE a lazy susan and love this large clear one because it goes with a lot of other clear items The Container Store sells and it has a lip to help items not fall over.

Stackable Acacia Drawer Organizer: If you know us you know we love a drawer organizer. Plus, these stack, which is great if you have deep drawers.

The Laundress 1 Gallon Detergent: If you have been following along for a long time then you know I have used and LOVE The Laundress products. Now The Container Store sells their 1 gallon size, which I personally buy for my own home.

Stackers Jewelry Organizer Clear Lids: We have used stackers jewelry boxes for a lot of clients through the years and as you know the lids are not see through, but now they are! Clients will love this.

6" Deep Drawer Dividers: I love that Linus made 6" drawer divider because these are great for really deep drawers, especially in kitchens and closets.

Shelf Clip Labels: It is always great to have more labeling options!

What are some of your favorite products to use?

Steele Canvas Baskets: these became popular a few years ago and it is fun to see The Container Store is finally selling them.

Toy Storage: I always love new toy storage ideas.

Lion Hyacinth Bin:This is just so cute for a baby or kid's room. They come in other various animals as well.

Seagrass & Cotton Basket: I love that this basket folds down so you can change the style and size of it if you like.

White Rolling Bin: This is perfect for under the bed storage.

Acrylic Risers: I love using risers for various things and it is fun to see a different design of the acrylic riser.

Acrylic Lidded Box: We are using this on a client project coming up and can't wait to see how it looks on the desk.

Cart organizer: I know SO many clients who have these carts and because so many people use them in bathrooms, craft rooms, kid's rooms, etc. these cart organizers are so handy.

Black Wire Baskets: Black bins and baskets are definitely trending right now and I know so many client's who will love these.

Houston Professional Organizer // Pantry Organization

As a professional organizer you have to constantly get creative with small spaces. This client moved into a new apartment in Houston with no pantry and I converted the coat closet into a pantry for them. We used an over the door organizer, a metal shelf, oxo containers, white bins, a can riser, and montauk bins with label clips. Are you in Houston and have an apartment you need help with? I would love to help you get it organized.

Top Takeaways NAPO Houston Professional Organizers Learned from the NAPO 2019 Conference

Did you go to the NAPO 2019 conference? So many Houston organizers attended because it was basically in our backyard. I asked Houston organizers to submit their top tips they learned from conference and here is what some organizers had to say.

Adonna Braly with Clutter Roundup: "In one of the educational sessions, I learned that there are 4 roadblocks to effective time management – emotional, environmental, intellectual and social – and how to reframe each one for optimum results. I also learned that the networking, camaraderie, and fellowship with my fellow organizers is priceless. It’s really the reason I go to conference and never fails to be the best part!"

Donna Matthews with Slay the Chaos: "Your brand is not a logo - it’s a feeling, perception, experience AND a promise...I've been thinking about what my promise is and how to align all my efforts accordingly."

Stephanie King with Status Organized: "Loved the welcoming and warm-hearted members of NAPO...my new tribe. Learned about creating resiliency to get through life. ABC Method:
(A) Accept Reality: you may not be able to control a situation but you CAN control your response to the situation
(B) Behave Productively: 5-4-3-2-1-MOVE (or write or leave the house or exercise, etc....a little oomph to start a process)
(C) Control Upsetting Thoughts: use realistic statements or mantras to quiet the negative talk"

Ellen Delap with Professional-Organizer.com: "From the Presidents perspective. Attending conference helps you grow your career and business. Connection in real life is priceless."

Melony Davis with All About Space Organizing: "One of the workshops encouraged us to ask for an Emergency Contact and Phone #, as well as any preexisting medical conditions that we might need to be aware of as we work together. Thought these were great ideas! (So many more.)"

Amy Vance with Eco Modern Concierge: "I learned so much from conference as always. One of my main takeaways gathering all the information in one place in case something happened to me and someone needed to access my business info. I have all the info, but not in one go to place for someone to access. This is definitely something I will be working on soon."

Client Bad Ass Mama: Closet Organization Before + After

I started working for this family during the holidays and we did a total closet transformation. She was originally looking for a professional organizer in Houston to get her organized right before the holidays and this turned into a several month project. I have had a lot of fun working for this sweet family and we have made some HUGE progress. This closet was awesome after it was all said and done and of course the pictures don't do it justice.
