Playroom Organization Before & After + Playroom Organizing Tips

This blog post about playroom organization has been sitting in my drafts for folder for YEARS! I am not sure why I never posted this, but here you go. I helped organize this client's house on several occasions. We went through almost every space in their house. This playroom was fun to organize because it is so colorful. Every product that was used the client already had. The playroom was basically separated into various zones like art, kitchen, reading, etc.

Here are some basic playroom organizing tips:

Edit - get rid of toys that are broken, no longer work or that your child has outgrown, etc.
Sort - sort like toys together.
Toss - get rid of any trash or toys with missing pieces.
Contain - contain the toys in some type of system, whether that is bins, shelves, drawers, etc.
Enjoy!

Client West U Mama: Toy Closet Organization Before and After

About a year ago we helped this client turn their toy closet into a functional space. We added some new product that they had bought and then also used product that they already had in order to keep most toys in here.
  1. I sorted all the items.
  2. Contained them.
  3. Organized.
  4. Labeled. I hand did the labels and the client chose to keep them like that at the time.

Client Bad Ass Mama: Living Room / Playroom Organization Before + After

Here is another post from a client where we were organizing the whole house. This room was full of toys, clothes, etc. The boys help me go through all of the toys and we folded and put away all of the clothes. This was a HUGE difference.

Here are various carts that are useful in playrooms or for keeping art supplies organized. Here, here and here

Client Busy Mama: Playroom Closet Organization

I am not sure if you remember this, this and this post (where the switching of the closets began) from a while ago, but I got called back to switch rooms. The playroom was now becoming the baby's room and they had to switch closets. The playroom closet held toys, unused items, extra toys, etc. It was migrating into the baby's old closet that had several items that needed to stay in there.

Here is what I did:
  • Take all the baby's clothes, shoes, etc. out of the closet and put into the other closet.
  • Switch everything from the one closet to another.
  • Organized in both closets.
  • Several things needed to stay in the closet like boxed up clothes, blankets, etc so I reorganized those items.
  • Some items from the top shelf of the closet got put onto the shelves on the right of the closet like books.
  • It may not look as organized as there were several large toys that needed to stay in the closet, but that is part of having kids ;). The larger toys needed to be on the ground to properly fit in the closet.
  • Larger, rectangular items were placed on the back wall because they were relatively flat.
Here are some fun organization items for kids:
  • Kids storage shelves here and here.
  • Kids activity table and storage here
  • Compartment storage for small items here.
