Eco Product: Biodegradable Dog Bags

When I am walking my dog I use poop bags because, well, we have to pick up his shit or the neighbors get mad. I like to use biodegradable bags that you can buy online, at many pet stores and local parks usually have them. I try to get extra ones from the park in our neighborhood, so I don’t run out.  The biodegradable ones are eco and good for the environment.

Made in the USA: Bison Dog Collars

I bought this made in the USA dog collar for my sweet boy, Rothko,  at Petco several months ago. I love the colors in it and it seems to be comfortable for him. It is from a company called Bison, which is located in Colorado.

Valentine's Day, Keep the Pets in Mind

Today is Valentine's Day and common gifts that many people receive are flowers, candles, candies, etc. Although all those things are nice to have be sure to keep the pets in mind when receiving them. There are many flowers that are toxic like tulips, carnations and baby's breath. Some non toxic flowers are roses, lavender, and some blossoms. Candles can harm pets if they get to close and burn themselves. Also, certain candies especially chocolates can be very harmful to pets. So this Valentine's Day keep your pets in mind. Here is an article that expands more on the topic.

Some eco and non-toxic options on Valentine's Day include giving succulents, herbs or native flowers. Buy fair-trade chocolates and give soy candles.

Dog Walking

Most dogs liked to be walked. If you are the type that just lets them run around in the backyard, instead of walking them than try something new. We are all guilty of doing this when we think that we don’t have time, but truth is we all do we just have to make time. One thing that my dog, Rothko, loves to do is go on walks. Whether it is just down the street or to a dog park try doing something with your dog that you normally wouldn’t do with your pet, they will love you for it. Check online to see if your city has local dog parks/runs nearby because most do.

Pet Cupcake Recipe

As many of you probably know I have been house/pet sitting for people for many years now. And like most pet owners they adore their pets and would do just about anything for them. One thing that every pet loves is people food, if they are allowed to have it. Below is a recipe of some healthy, delicious cupcakes/ muffins your pet is sure to love.

1 cup wheat flour

1tsp baking soda

1/4 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 cup shredded carrots

1 tsp. vanilla

1/3 cup honey

1 egg

Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 8" round cake pan and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Let cool. Puree cottage cheese in blender for icing. Decorate with more peanut butter and carrots. Take several stick like treats to use as candles.

Here is a picture of my sweet Rothko on his 1st birthday 3/28/10.
