Professional Organizers Toolbox

Good Morning! I know it has been a couple of weeks since I posted anything. This blogging thing is hard work and I currently don't get paid to blog, so sometimes my work life takes over and I don't update as often. Hopefully I can get back in the swing of things for a moment because I know some clients and others like reading here from time to time.

I wanted to share with you guys what I keep in my toolbox that I often take with me to organizing jobs. I often find that there are certain little things that I need with organizing projects and my clients don't always have them readily available for me, that's often why they hire me. :) Sometimes I do take this with me to personal assistant and eco consulting jobs, but mostly for organizing projects. The items I keep in the toolbox change from time to time, but most of the time it is pretty much the same basic items.

Here is what is in my toolbox at the moment:

  • Label Maker (an organizers really good friend)
  • Extra Label Maker Tape
  • Hammer / Screwdriver Combo
  • Packing Tape
  • Regular Tape
  • Stapler
  • Staples
  • Paper Clips
  • Notepad
  • Sharpie
  • Pens / Pencils
  • Zip Ties
  • Laminating Cards
  • Batteries
  • USB Drive
  • Box Cutter
  • Scissors

I got my toolbox from Alice Supply Co many years ago, but they seem to have gone out of business?

How to Properly Dispose of Medication

Several years ago when I would organize for clients and need to dispose of medication or dispose my own medication I would drop off expired medication at CVS and they would dispose of it for me. Now that is not the case. You have to dispose of it using these prepaid TakeAway envelopes or boxes.

This website lets you put your zip code and see where there is place close to you to dispose of medication.

FDA suggests mixing expired medication with coffee grounds or kitty litter, putting in a container and throwing in the trash. DO NOT flush old medication as it can contaminate the environment.

Eco & DIY Essential Oil Hand Sanitizers

Throughout the years I have tried some eco hand sanitizers that aren't popular name brands. Clean Well, EO, and Aesop have been kind of been my go to's the last couple of years. Also, I have Higher Nature Colloidal Silver I spray every so often, it helps with germs. I use it mostly when I travel.

Here is a DIY hand sanitizer.

What you need:

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Doterra Ongaurd essential oil or something similar
  • Doterra Wild Orange essential oil or something similar
  • Spray bottle

  1. Mix 15-20 of Ongaurd and Orange oils and 1-2 oz of coconut oil into a spray bottle.
  2. Shake bottle.
  3. Use on your hands.

Great Photography Book for Beginners

Last year, I took one of Nicole's Classes on photography 101 to learn how to use my DSLR camera I had no idea how to use. I was so glad Ailee of Snapshots & My Thoughts recommended her classes. I bought the book to go along with the class and so glad I did. Even if you don't want to take the class, but want to learn how to your DSLR camera, this book covers everything from the class.  The class was easy to follow and you can go at your own pace.

I hope to take more of her classes in the future.

Hot Yoga Essentials

Starting in January and lasting all of February I did Big Yoga's 40 challenge. I have had a lot of people mention how they loved the Big Yoga studio in Montrose and since I had never been, I decided to just jump right in with their 40 day challenge. New students get unlimited yoga for $30 a month then they have a variety of class packages you can choose from after that.

I instantly hated it. I have been doing yoga off and on for 14 years and have always loved the hatha yoga style because I LOVE a good stretch. That being said, I do love trying new things and a good challenge. I didn't realize that Big Yoga was basically all hot yoga. I have done hot yoga at other studios. There were some non hot yoga classes at Big, but they were mainly towards the evening and mornings almost always work best for me when I exercise. I grew to not hate it as much. With the challenge we were doing it 6 days a week with one off day. My body was tired and sore doing it for 6 days straight. I was happy to run into people I knew, who I didn't know were doing the challenge.

Here are some things that I found helpful for hot yoga:

  • Obviously you need workout clothes. Get something that absorbs sweat. Brand doesn't matter, I really like Lululemons clothes because they are durable and last.
  • Water bottle. I love my BKR bottle, but any will do. Most studios have water for you to purchase.
  • Yoga mat. Some yoga studios may have one for you to borrow or rent.
  • Towel. I know most people put towels on their mat to help them not slide. I personally don't like the towels on the mat because it makes me slip more. Some yoga studios may have one for you to borrow or rent.
  • Block. Some yoga studios may have one for you to borrow or rent.
  • Strap. Some yoga studios may have one for you to borrow or rent.
  • Hair tie. If your hair is long enough to pull back you may want to bring a hair tie.

Organizing Cards You Receive

My husband has saved cards I have given him throughout the years. Vice versa. When he started working offshore several years ago I would send him or give him a letter before every hitch. I decided to compile all the letters throughout the years into a binder. I wanted to be able to see the front and back of the cards and envelopes.

Here is a how to and it is super simple. This is just what works for me.

Supplies:
  • Transparency Film Sheets
  • Sheet Protectors
  • Binder
  • Bakers Twine
  • Scissors
  • Tape

  1. Cut a small piece of twine to go between the crease of the card.
  2. Tape each side of the twine on the transparency sheet.
  3. To add the envelope I put a small piece of tape on the top of the envelope.
  4. Slide the transparency sheet into the sheet protector and add to binder.
  5. Enjoy your binder of cards.

Made in the USA: Stamps

As I have mentioned on here before, I love stamps and sending mail. Here are some of my current favorite stamps right now. There are several that are coming later this year that I love as well. The only bad thing is that stamps have gotten sooo expensive. People always seem to love getting mail with fun stamps.

Another great thing you can do with stamps is put them in a frame and use them as art.
