How to Host and Tips for Getting Organized for a Safe Super Bowl Party During a Pandemic in 2021

Are you watching the Super Bowl this year? It is Sunday, February 7, 2021. I know by unpopular opinion that hosting Super Bowl parties is NOT the best thing to do right now since Corona virus is spreading so rapidly, but in all reality, it is going to happen anyways for a lot of people. Especially, here in the Houston area where life is back to "normal" for many people unfortunately. Remember to practice safe social distancing if you are attending or hosting a party.

Are you celebrating Super Bowl Sunday? If so, how are you celebrating.

Here are some save ways to host a party where you can social distance if you choose to and what to include in your parties:

Where to host

Host a virtual party. Gather a group of friends and watch the Super Bowl all together via Zoom, Discord or on your own. Then check in with each other during certain points of the game.

Rent a theater. Many theaters let you rent out the whole theater and you can put whatever you want on it. Some large theaters have various restrictions while other smaller theaters in small towns will let you rent the whole theater to watch whatever you like.

Host a socially distanced outdoor party. If you have a pop up movie screen or even projecting the game on your garage or to sheet would work just fine. People

Host a watch party at a drive up theater either at a drive in or at your house if you have room. This is fun way that everyone can social distance and still be entertained.

Sanitation Station

Determine where you will have a sanitation station. Depending on where you will be hosting your Super Bowl party make sure you have a sanitation station readily available for everyone. Would this be set up at the end of your driveway, a theater, an entrance to your backyard or home, etc.

Have disposable masks. If someone forgot their mask, make sure to have a disposable one on hand for them.

Have cleaning supplies handy. Wipe down communal surfaces frequently like food and drink spaces. Whether this is with cleaning spray or disinfecting wipes.

Determine a way to have easy access to facilities on site. If a guest needs to go to the restroom will there be a bathroom readily available for them?

Games

Play games. During the Super Bowl play drinking games or other games during the game or during commercial breaks.

Games for little ones. What will you have easily available for little kids that may be there? Coloring stations, puzzles, board games, yard games, etc are always fun for kids.

Food & Drink

Individually packaged foods. Buy snack packs for for finger goods, dips, chips, desserts, etc. Many restaurants are also selling individual boxed food, charcuterie boards, etc. This is an easy way to keep it sanitary and make sure everyone isn't grabbing from the same food bowls.

BYOF & BYOB. Bring your own food and drinks. Tell guests that you are doing picnic style and ask them to bring their own food.

Grill. If you are hosting an outdoor party grill for your guests.

Hire a bartender. Do you not want to worry about things and stress less, if it is in your budget hire a bartender.

Use delivery services. Use delivery services like Drizly, UberEats, Favor, etc. get your food, drink and decor delivered if you don't have to to think about it or to feel less stressed.

Decor

Go for simple. Go for simple decorations. Places like the dollar store, Walmart and Party City have decent, inexpensive decorations.

Use butcher paper. Using butcher paper is an easy way to decorate is with butcher paper on tables and have kids color on them or use it label what food is what, drinks, etc.

How to Organize a Super Bowl Party

This is a repost from last year, but I thought it is still relevant because of the upcoming Super Bowl.

I am sad that the Super Bowl is not in Houston this year. It was a ton of fun to have it in town 2 years ago. Since we are a concierge company in Houston we were busy and filled with all kinds of fun activities. Plus, my clients had all kinds of personal assistant tasks and professional organizing tasks based all around Super Bowl being in town. If you are hosting a Super Bowl party below are some tips to organize for a Super Bowl party.

  • Make a to-do list. Make a list of everything you know you need to do like guest list, food, drinks, etc.
  • Clean. Clean a couple of days of ahead of time and prep for your guests.
  • Guest list. Make a list of people you want to invite over and send out an evite, text, or email. Send invites 1-2 weeks prior to the Super Bowl.
  • Decide what room you will watch the game in. See if you need more seating. If so, bring seating options into the room.
  • Decorations. Decide if you want to go simple or use team colors. You can often get items at the Dollar Store in order to save some money.
  • Prep food. Prep as much food as you can the night before and consider having a potluck where everyone brings a dish. The Defined Dish has some great Super Bowl Sunday Whole30 recipes and First & Full has some great Super Bowl recipes.
  • Extra Ice. Be sure to have extra ice for all the drinks.
  • Coolers. Have coolers stocked with a variety of drinks like water, soda and beer.
  • Plates, napkins, serving ware, etc. Have plenty of these items for everyone to use.
  • Remove breakables. Anything precious to you, breakable or valuable remove from the areas you will be in during your Super Bowl party. You never know how rowdy some of your guests will get.
  • Have a cleaning kit ready. Be prepared for spills and stains that can happen and take them with ease as they come. Make sure to gather up a small cleaning kit, so you are prepared.
  • Document. Take photos and share with friends. Instax cameras are always fun to have around.
  • Take notes. After the party is over. Take notes of things you would like to do the next time you host a party.
  • Have fun!

A Day in the Life of a Houston Concierge: Eco Modern Concierge During Houston Super Bowl 51

During Super Bowl 51 I rented a loft in Downtown Houston because I knew there were several things that I would need to do in the downtown area leading up to / during the Super Bowl. Having a concierge company and doing various personal assistant for clients you never know what you will get asked to do, so I wanted to stay in downtown so I didn't have to worry about parking and so I could walk or take public transportation. Besides obviously having to work, I also got to enjoy various things that I normally don't get to while in downtown like going to new stores, bars, restaurants, etc. So below is just various things I did one day while in town. It wasn't my busiest day, but one full of all kinds of things. I also forgot to take photos of the entire day, but hey what can I do.

1st I got up early to go to yoga. I go to YMCA in downtown and love it.

Fun surprises walking to yoga. The cool thing is you can see it from the yoga room. Love is everywhere.

I popped into the office for a bit to catch up on emails and various other things.

View from the office. It was a gorgeous day that day and a perfect day to be outside.

Walking in downtown.

There was a pop up shop called Launch happening during the Super Bowl near Discovery Green, so I went and loved it. I got a few small items from Stash.

I stopped in Vic & Anthony's to get a gift certificate. We ended up going there later that night and met my brother-in-law and his girlfriend there for dinner. Peyton and Eli Manning happened to be there the same night. I am not an avid football fan, but it was still cool.

Super Bowl themed treats I picked up and took to a vendor.

Greenstreet in Downtown had various pop up shops. One being Mizzen + Main that my brother-in-law raves about, so I stopped in and picked something up for Bryan for Valentine's Day.

View from above Discovery Green.

Filming on the balcony of one of my client's buildings.

I went to Discovery Green to take photos of all of the Super Bowl things with my fancy camera and the Puppy Bowl was going on. It was too cute!

I am part of Tidbits Front Row and there was a free drink voucher at Brasserie Du Parc, so after I finished up work and at Discovery Green I headed over there.

I can't remember exactly what I had, but it was something with a little spice in it and it was super good.

More walking Downtown.

The Metro all ready for Super Bowl.

I went to check out Tongue Cut Sparrow, which had just opened the day before. It is a cool little hidden bar in Downtown. Plus, they have Buried Hatchet, one of my favorite dark beers by Southern Star.

These were mats in front of most restaurants Downtown. Later in the evening. I went back to the loft got ready for dinner and then we had a night cap at the Craft Beer Cellar and Flying Saucer.

Navigating Super Bowl 51 in Houston, TX

Anyone else excited about the Super Bowl being in Houston? The festivities begin next week. Eco Modern Concierge is super excited to be an approved vendor for the Super Bowl and work with different clients in regards to Super Bowl activities, whether this is errands, personal assistant tasks, professional organizing tasks, personal concierge tasks, etc.

When I first thought about writing this post I thought about all the tips and tricks I could share, but then thought why reinvent the wheel of content that is already out there. The Visit Houston website and Houstonia Magazine both have some great content out there already.  Also, KHOU has details on various parties and happenings. Go check out their sites and get ready to experience something exciting in Houston or just stay home and avoid Downtown ;)
