Happy 1st Day of Spring & Spring 2019 Bucket List

Happy 1st day of Spring! Warmer temps are on the horizon and here is my Spring 2019 bucket list

Go on at least 3 or more walks / park visits a week with our sweet dog. This used to be such a regular habit that we got out of doing in the colder months.

Try a new salad recipe. I have a salad recipe book my mother in law gave me years ago and want to try something new.

Outdoor yoga. I NEED more yoga in my life.

Go to the drive in movie. We haven't been in so long and I would love to go again.

Long bike rides. I love riding my bike.

Go to a new date spot with Bryan. We tend to go and do a lot of the same things that we like and we need to try something new.

What is on your spring bucket list?

Spring 2018 Bucket List

Do you have a spring bucket list? There are so many things that I constantly want to do in general, in Houston and outside of Houston. Here are 10 things that are on my bucket list this spring. What is on your spring bucket list?

  • Picnic somewhere new. It is no secret that I love a good picnic.
  • Explore new trails in The Woodlands. I want to go find a fun new hiking/biking/walking trail in The Woodlands.
  • Go fishing. I grew up fishing and love fishing. We have a catch and release area in a park in the back of our neighborhood, but after 4 years of living in our neighborhood we have never fished there. This is the year.
  • Try a new brewery. We love breweries, but there are SO many now that we haven't been to, so we need to do some exploring.
  • Road trip somewhere new. I always love a good road trip too.
  • Add color to the yard. Since there was a freeze this past year in Houston, so many of our plants died and we need to make it look more pretty.
  • Yoga class outside. This is the perfect weather for yoga outside.
  • Read 2 new books. I am slacking on my reading and this needs to happen.
  • Clean our siding. We have cedar siding and have been needing to get it cleaned for years, but since our roofline comes to a peak we have run into issues of costs, lack of people/companies wanting to take on the task, etc. This is going to happen this year because I think my husband found a solution.
  • Finish our dang sunroom. We have a sunroom that has random rocks in it because the previous owners used it as a playroom (ummm what kids want to play on rocks). We started the project, but never finished. This is the year we finish it.

Herb Garden

This was a post I meant to post last Spring and since the herb garden is basically the same I thought I would go ahead and post it.

Since moving into our new house one thing that I had at our old house and really wanted at the new house was an herb garden. We tinkered on different ideas of whether to have it raised on the ground or up off the ground, that way we could move it.

My concerns were that I didn't want treated wood to be used for the majority of it, so it would be cedar and galvanized metal or a stone herb garden. I decided to use stone. We had some extra stones in our yard and just decided to use those.

Here is what we did (it's super easy):
  • Used 20 stones and we did two layers on top of each other to form a rectangle
  • Lined the bottom with newspaper
  • Then organic compost
  • Then organic soil
  • Plant the herbs
  • Label if you want. I had metal labels made years ago that I got off of Etsy.
  • Done!

I got the herbs from Whole Foods and a local nursery that I found at a farmers market called New Leaf Nursery. When we first did this herb garden the herbs did amazing. Then winter came and many died off while many others did awesome. Now that Spring is here, some of the ones that died have come back to life. They need full sun. I water mine about every 2-3 days.
